Scottish Government – The Scottish Government Antimicrobial Resistance Policy team, operating as part of the Chief Nursing Officer Directorate, works in partnership with the UK Government and the devolved administrations to develop and oversee actions to address AMR. 

UK AMR National Action Plan 2024-29 – The UK AMR National Action Plan 2024-29 “Confronting antimicrobial resistance”; builds on the achievements and lessons of the first. It contains outcomes and commitments that will make progress towards the 20-year vision for AMR to be contained, controlled and mitigated. 

Public Health Scotland (PHS) – Public Health Scotland (PHS) is the public health agency of Scotland who are uniquely sponsored by the Scottish Government and the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) on behalf of local government. They work in partnership, to provide leadership to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland, provide authoritative information and services to support people and communities across Scotland, lead the national response to unforeseen health emergencies and contribute to national and local government policy through provision of robust data and intelligence including: microbiology, pharmaceutical public health and prescribing, veterinary medicine, and genomics

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) – NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is an education and training body and a national health board within NHS Scotland. They are responsible for developing and delivering healthcare education and training for the NHS, health and social care sector and other public bodies. They have a Scotland-wide role in undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development. Education and training on antimicrobial stewardship is developed and maintained in collaboration with subject matter experts, e,g, SAPG. In the context of the UK AMR NAP, NES scopes, develops, delivers, support and maintains education and training on IPC, AMR/AMS and the healthcare built environment for the wider non-specialist workforce and for specialists.

Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group (SAPG) – The Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group (SAPG), established in 2008 at the request of the Scottish Government, works closely with NHS board Antimicrobial Management Teams (AMTs) and other key stakeholders to promote the safe and effective use of antimicrobials across health and social care settings.

Scotland’s Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is Scotland’s principal environmental regulator and their statutory purpose is to protect and improve the environment in ways that, as far as possible, also create health and wellbeing benefits and sustainable economic growth.

Antimicrobial Resistance & Healthcare Associated Infection (ARHAI) – Antimicrobial Resistance & Healthcare Associated Infection (ARHAI) Scotland is a clinical service providing national expertise for infection, prevention and control (IPC), AMR and healthcare associated infection (HAI) for Scotland. They are responsible for supporting the ongoing development of a confident, knowledgeable and competent IPC workforce in collaboration with NHS Education for Scotland, enabling good professional practice, research and innovation to provide evidence for action and the development and maintenance of national evidence-based IPC guidance for Scotland.

Pathogen Genomics in Scotland – Pathogen Genomics In Scotland: Strategic Plan 2024-2029. This strategy sets out the next five years of development around Pathogen Genomics in Scotland with mapped out strategic objectives and actions. It mentions AMR throughout, with a strategic action to support the NAP.

Scotland’s Wastewater Monitoring Programme: 3-year Strategic Plan – Publications – Public Health Scotland – Wastewater Monitoring Strategic Plan 2025-2028. This strategy sets out the next three years of development around the Wastewater Monitoring Programme in Scotland with mapped out strategic objectives, strategic actions as well as wider policy and legislative landscape which incorporates AMR.
