UK AMR NAP 2024 – 2029 SOHAR Information

Following the conclusion of the UK Antimicrobial Resistance National Action Plan (UK AMR NAP) for 2019-2024, development began on the 2025-2029 version. The work carried out across government during the previous NAP led to progressive action towards reducing the negative impact of AMR in the UK and globally. Successes of that plan included: The piloting of new payment schemes for antibiotics on the NHS, further reductions in the use of antibiotics in food-producing animals and the development of improved surveillance systems

The latest UK AMR NAP, ‘Confronting antimicrobial resistance 2024 to 2029’, builds on the achievements and lessons of the first and contains outcomes and commitments that will make progress towards the 20-year vision for AMR to be contained, controlled and mitigated. The 2024 to 2029 national action plan has 9 strategic outcomes organised under 4 themes. Action will be taken across all sectors (human health, animal health, agriculture and the environment).

Within these outcomes are 30 commitments which are led by individual Workstreams (or implementing body) – Scottish Government is responsible for Workstream 6.
